Bolivian police officers who are on strike over low pay have clashed with supporters of the president Evo Morales in Bolivia's main city La Paz. About 500 government supporters marched to the city's main square where twice as many police had rallied to demand a salary increase. The officers used tear gas to drive back the government supporters.
Three policemen have been shot dead at Mexico City's international airport. Police said the officers had been sent to detain suspects in a drug-trafficking case. Travellers dived for cover when the suspects opened fire, killing two officers; a third died in hospital. The suspects got away.
The Ugandan Red Cross fears that many people may have died in a
landslide
in the east of the country. At least 15 homes were buried in the area near Mount Elgon National Park. Gabriel Gatehouse reports.
