Zhan Wenlian, a 49-year-old female who died from lung cancer on May 8, donated her body for China’s first scientific cryogenic project. The project, which was initiated by the Yifeng Academy of Life Science, a medical company in Jinan, Shandong province, aims to bring the dead back to life after preserving their corpses, “waking” them up when medical technologies are fully developed, according to Chengdu Economic Daily.
A special anti-freezing solution was injected into Zhan’s corpse, while special medical equipment such as respirators is being used to ensure the physiological functions of the body. The corpse itself rests on the world’s only cryogenic bed, which cools the body’s temperature to -190 degrees Celsius. Scientists from both China and U.S. have taken part in the project, collecting data and information for future research.
