BUENOS AIRES, May 19 -- Claudio Tapia has been re-elected president of the Argentinian Football Association (AFA), the Buenos Aires-based body said on Tuesday.
The 52-year-old's continuation was ratified during an extraordinary general assembly on Tuesday, which was held remotely because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Having assumed the post in 2017, Tapia's new mandate runs until October 2025.
"I am convinced that there will be a before and an after to the work that the entire leadership is carrying out," Tapia said.
"I want to congratulate and thank the leaders who accompanied us in these first three years. It has been a difficult task and we have had to rebuild Argentinian football."
The AFA confirmed there would be six vice-presidents: Jorge Ameal (Boca Juniors), Rodolfo D'Onofrio (River Plate), Marcelo Tinelli (San Lorenzo), Hugo Moyano (Independiente), Marcelo Achile (Defensores) and Guillermo Raed (Mitre).
Last July, Tapia was stripped of his place as the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) representative on FIFA's executive council after his criticism of the 2019 Copa America in Brazil.
