A senior Chinese official has reported a saying that for the first time the country’s urban population is due to outnumber those living in rural areas, and it’s likely to happen within five years. Addressing a conference in eastern China, the head of the Population Planning Commission Li Bin said the country faced major changes. While China’s population was projected to reach almost 1.4 billion by 2015, the proportion of those too young or too old to work would increase for the first time in 40 years.
Spain and Germany have qualified for the semi-finals of the World Cup in South Africa where they will face each other. Germany thrashed Argentina 4-0 in Cape Town while Spain beat Paraguay 1-0 in Johannesburg, as Alex Capstick reports.
Spain have qualified for their first-ever World Cup semi-final, but a defensive Paraguay made life very difficult for the European champions. The only goal of a disappointing match was scored by David Villa, his fifth at the tournament. Both teams missed a penalty, otherwise there wasn’t much to thrill the crowd here at Ellis Park. Spain have yet to reproduce the form which took them to the European title two years ago, and they know they will have to improve when they face Germany in next Wednesday’s semi-final.And the other semi-final will be between the Netherlands and Uruguay.
