The United States has
imposed sanctions on
more Iranian interests because of its concern about Iran's nuclear activities. The US treasury said it was
blacklisting
a number of companies for contributing to what it said was Tehran’s effort to a acquire nuclear weapons. Washington said it had identified a number of front companies and banks that had allegedly helped Iran evade existing sanctions. Iran says its nuclear program is entirely peaceful.
United Nations helicopter gunship has opened gunfire on Tutsi-led rebels in Eastern Congo. A UN official said the attack against the M23 rebels took place in the north of the town of Goma close to the border of Rwanda. Correspondents say it is rare for the UN force in Congo to go on the offensive. The UN has accused Rwanda of supporting the M23. But in the BBC interview, the Rwandan president Paul Kagame denied any involvement with the rebels.
