16. What is the passage mainly about?
Passage Three
A cormorant is a large waterfowl that looks somewhat like a seagull
and has a long beak with a pouch
or sack, on its underside.
The birds are often used for fishing in China and Japan.
In order to fish with cormorant
the fisherman goes out at night in a small boat.
He must carry with him a bright light.
He must also take with him a number of cormorant
each with a cord around its body and a loose metal ring around its neck.
The fisherman first puts the birds in the water
making sure to keep the strings in his hand.
At once the cormorants begin looking for fish.
When a cormorant catches a fish, the bird tries to swallow it.
However, the metal ring around its neck prevents this.
Because he cannot swallow the fish he catches
the cormorant stores them in the sack under its beach.
When the sacks are full, the fisherman pulls in his birds.
Opening their beaks,he reaches into the sacks and pulls out the fish.
