8. extinct a. 绝灭的，熄灭的

有一个词instinct跟这个词跟它长得很像，instinct表示直觉、本能、天性。

The tour guide is not sure whether this is an extinct volcano or not.

导游不确定这是不是死火山。

9. extraordinary a. 不平常的，特别的，非凡的

这个词是一个复合词，由词缀extra+ordinary组成，extra表示以外的，超过的，所以超出平凡的(ordinary)就是不平凡的，非凡的了。

I want to be an extraordinary author in the future.

我想将来成为一名非凡的作家。

10. extreme a. 极度的，极端的 n. 极端，过分

和extreme相关的几个短语有extreme sports 极限运动，to an extreme 极度地，非常地，extreme tourism 极限旅游。

Mohe is in the extreme north of China.

漠河在中国的最北端。

11. blur v. 变模糊;弄脏

blur with sth. 被弄模糊

My vision blurred with fog.

我的视野被大雾弄得模糊不清。

12. bribe v. n. 行贿;收买，贿赂

take /offer a bribe 受贿/行贿 give /offer /hand out bribes to sb. 向某人行贿

bribe sb. into silence 用贿赂封住某人的嘴 be bribed into secrecy 受了贿替某人保密
