　　Explain or Keep Silence ?

　　Nowadays , it is very difficult to avoid rumors and slanders completely , espe-cially to those celebrities . Some people maintain that when one suffers from rumors , he should come out to make explanation and defense for himself , while others argue that the best way is to keep silence . As to me , I am if favor of the former in rumors .

　　Of course , sometimes silence can help reduce peoples interest in rumors . Also , after a period of time , rumors might disappear naturally in the face of the truth . But it is worth noting that in most cases , silence doesnt work in getting rid of rumors but increase peoples uncertainty and suspicion .

　　From my point of view , facing rumors , one should stand up bravely to defend himself rather than say nothing to them . The following reasons can support my argument . First , it is your explanation that helps others leam the truth . Second , rumors often go round very quickly , and your silence will foster its further spread .

　　According to the table , it is clear that there is a sharp increase in number of postgraduate candidates in X Province from 2000 to 2008 . In 2000 , there were only 1,600 candidates participating in the exam . However , 2 years later , the number increased to 5,600 . and by 2008 it has reached 52,000 .
