China smashed co-host Malaysia 5-1 while Indonesia overcame Bahrain 2-1 in 2007 Asian Cup group stage on Tuesday. China quickly gained advantage in Bukit Jalil National Stadium, forcing the Malaysian side to concentrate on its defense.
Forward Han Peng opened China's scoring with a close-range header in the15th minute following a nice cross by midfielder Wang Dong. Shao Jiayi scored again in the 36th minute with an easy tip-shot at the goalmouth.
After the interval, China continued its offense. Wang Dong and Han Peng scored for China in the 51st minute and the 55th minute.
Malaysia's forward Mahayuddin Indra Putra picked up a consolation goal for the home side on 72 minutes with a powerful long-range shot.
But Wang Dong changed the score board to 5-1 with a header in injury time.
In Jakarta, Indonesia played a tight match and beat Bahrain 2-1 in Group D.
In the 14th minute, Indonesia's Firman Utina passed ball to Budi Sudarsono who beat Bahrain's goalkeeper easily to lift the home side to 1-0 lead.
Bahrain made use of their body advantage to strengthen offense, and leveled the score in the 27th minute.
In the second half, Indonesia played more aggressively and made some threatening shots.
The advantage turned to a splendid goal in the 64th minute when Indonesian star forward Bambang Pamungkas sent home a reflected ball in the box.
On Wednesday, South Korea will play against Saudi Arabia while Iran is to meet Uzbekistan.
