China's Song Aimin took the win in women's discus event Friday at Asian championships. Her teammate Ma Xuejun placed second by a mere 0.27-meter gap while India's Krishna Poonia grabbed bronze hat-trick at the Asian championships.
Song, who finished fourth at the Beijing Olympics and threw a personal best of 65.44 meters two weeks ago at the Chinese National Games, was in her best form and posted a mark of 63.90 meters to win the final.
Ma finished second with 63.63m.
Song Aimin of China competes during the final of women's discus throw at the 18th Asian Athletics Championships in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, Nov. 13, 2009. Song won the gold with 63.90 meters
Third at 2006 Asian Games, Poonia posted a mark of 59.84 meters, 3.31 meters further than her seasonal best but far off her personal best of 63.41 meters.
"The result is within my expectations, as women's discus is the strong point in China," said Song, "Indian athletes are also great, but they are apparently not in their best forms."
"My next goal is London Olympics Games, and I hope that I would perform well there," added Song.
