The South African government and business are to join forces to devise concrete plans to build on global goodwill and benefits generated from hosting the FIFA World Cup, South African President Jacob Zuma says.
Zuma made the pledge on Tuesday when meeting a large group of business leaders from Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), South Africa's largest business group in Johannesburg.
He added that he wanted quick action on this project.
South Africa's hosting of the FIFA World Cup from June 11 to July 11 has been widely praised.
On Wednesday, the local Business Day newspaper quoted Zuma as saying, "It is urgent, this will happen quickly."
The successful hosting of the World Cup has created a positive and more realistic "brand" for South Africa that was attracting more interest from global investors, he said.
"We want ideas from business and government to be put into the same pot, to discuss and produce an outcome. We don't want this momentum to die," Zuma noted.
