Mexican veteran forward Cuauhtemoc Blanco has signed a six-month renewable contract with Freseros, a second division team from central Mexican city Irapuato, the team said on its website on Thursday.
Blanco, who made his reputation at Mexico City first division team
America, played in this summer's World Cup in South Africa. He is set to arrive in Irapuato, in central Mexican state Guanajuato, on Friday.
Between seasons, Freseros also hired Reinaldo Navia, a Chilean who partnered Blanco during his glory days at America, forward Oscar Gonzalez and Margarito Gonzalez. All of them were former first division players.Navia was part of the Chilean team that took the Olympic bronze in Sydney, in 2000.
The website described Blanco as "an idol and a magnet for ticket sales", adding that "We are hiring him for his experience on the field and the fanbase that follows him."
