Junji Ogura will be appointed as Japan Football Association (JFA) president, the organization said on Saturday.
JFA vice president Ogura will replace Motoaki Inukai to take over the top job and his appointment will be finalized on Sunday, Kyodo news agency reported.
Ogura, 71, took the post of JFA vice president in 1998. He will retire as a member of the FIFA Executive Committee next year.
Inukai, who is also the chairman of Japan 2022 World Cup bid committee will step down at the end of July after completing just one two-year term.
