Brazilian swimmer Cesar Cielo smashed Thursday the 100 meters freestyle event record held by Gustavo Borges for 12 years at the Jose Finkel Trophy swim meet.
Cielo's 46.62 seconds in a 25 meters pool is also a new country record. He beat the time during the qualifying heats of me's 100m freestyle in the Brazilian swim meet.
The Brazilian swimmer, who beat his own personal record by 1.5 seconds, commented that it was exciting to break the record having stood for more than a decade.
After winning the gold medal in the 50 meters freestyle, Cielo will look to win the 100m event in Friday's final. He's also expected to compete in the 50 meters butterfly, the 4x100 meters freestyle and the 4x100 meters medley.
