The Olympic Park for the London 2012 Games will be renamed the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in 2013, the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) revealed on Thursday.
The 500-acre park in east London is going to hold many events such as swimming, athletics, indoor cycling during the 2012 Games as the centrepiece Olympic stadium, aquatic center as well as the velodrome are all inside the park.
Then, the long-term ambition for the park is to create a family- focused environment, seeing up to 11,000 new homes, including the flats now being built within the Olympic Village, developed over the next 25 years.
OPLC believed the name after Queen Elizabeth reflected a real tangible legacy from the 2012 Games, and reflects their plans for making the Park one of Europe's premier visitor destinations and a new thriving community with family homes, jobs, sports and leisure activities at its heart.
Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said that the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 would be just the beginning of the story for East London, while Mayor of London Boris Johnson claimed that their plans were seeking to combine the classical best of this city with the greatest benefits of modern urban living.
