American ace Andy Roddick was outplayed by Tomas Berdych from the Czech Republic in straight sets, suffering his second defeat in a row at the ATP World Tour Finals on Wednesday.
Roddick, 28, finished in Top 10 for a ninth straight year, joining Federer as only active players to accomplish the feat.
While facing the season finale debutant Berdych who lost all three matches against him this year, Roddick couldn't push himself forward as the usual genre but was broken in the 11th game to lose the first set 7-5.
The world No. 8 then struggled more helplessly when Berdych performed better in returns, being broken twice to concede the second set 6-3.
"It feels great," said the sixth seed Berdych who came back from Monday's loss to Novak Djokovic, claiming his first ever victory at the ATP Finals. "None of these matches are easy, especially today against Andy. I played him three times this year, all three times he won."
Actually, Berdych faced a challenge first as Roddick grabbed two break points while leading 5-4.
"I just went there, serve twice really good, turn the game. The last pickup volley was very tough, and I made it. Then the next game I just made a quick break and that was the key of the game," said Berdych.
Berdych will play Rafael Nadal in their last group match after the Spaniard had fought hard in a three-set win over Roddick in the opening match on Monday and is waiting for a duel with world No. 3 Djokovic on Wednesday night.
