West Bromwich Albion might loan striker Federico Macheda English Premier League rivals Manchester United as their head coach Roberto Di Matteo showed interest in the 19-year-old.

"Macheda is someone we looked at right at the start of last season. He's a striker, we are after a striker and we have to look at whether Manchester United will let him join us," said Di Matteo.

The other intent of West Brom is to sign Aston Villa's John Carew, while their own defenders Pablo Ibanez and Steven Reid were injured during Saturday's 2-1 defeat against United.

"We have to look at that possibility," he added.
