Over the past few days, I noticed myself increasingly thinking“I am having trouble concentrating and coffee might help”. These thoughts came to an end on Wednesday. This time, I was armed with data. I created a graph of my hours of concentration per day. One thing is very clear: based on my records, the amount of time I spend concentrating has not decreased since I quit coffee, so I can easily reject the wrong belief “I need coffee to help me concentrate.”
I see this as a success for self-quantifying. Whether or not it provides a general understanding of the effects of caffeine, it proves the use of self-tracking for making individualized personal decisions.
