　　1．一般是不可数的。但是有些词以复数形式出现。如：the United States，the Philippines(菲律宾)等。 2．专有名词人名前用不定冠词a 时，表示“……式的人”或“叫……的人”等含义。如： He wishes to be an Edison.他希望成为爱迪生式的人物。 A Mr.Wang is waiting for you at the gate. 一个叫王先生的在门口等你。六、专有名词

　　1．dozen，hundred，thousand，million，billion等词表达“准确数”时，词尾不加“s”，后不用of。如： Up to now，they have learned more than three thousand Chinese characters. 到目前为止，他们已经学了三千多个汉字了。七、几个特殊词的用法注意：当这一类词后面是代词，或后面的名词前有冠词the；指示代词these，those；物主代词my，your，his，her，their等时，dozen，hundred，thousand等词后用介词of。(此用法也适用于most，many，a great many等)。如：

　　I want half a dozen of these oranges. 我想要半打这样的橘子。 He would like two dozen of them. 他想要(他们中的)两打。 A hundred of these books were taken to the classroom. 一百本这样的书被带到教室去了。

　　2．score (二十) 表达“准确数”时，词尾不加“s”，其后习惯用of。但修饰时间名词时，介词of常可以省去。如： Three score of students have read the novel. 六十个学生已经读过这本小说。 Two score years has passed already. 四十年已经过去。 3．dozens of /scores of /hundreds of / thousands of /millions of等，表示“大约数目”，在其后加“s”，后面用of。如： Scores of people were late for the meeting. 数十人开会迟到了。 Hundreds of thousands of people poured into the square. 成千上万的人涌入广场。 Dozens of students were present for the meeting. 数十个学生参加了那个会议。
