三、任务型阅读Chinese painting
Chinese painting is a main form of Chinese art. It can be traced back to paintings on Neolithic pottery (新石器时代的陶器) six or seven thousand years ago. Chinese paintings are about painted on Xuan paper or silk in ink and colour. The painters usually use brushes to paint in Chinese ink. The classic subjects in Chinese paintings are plum blossom, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum, which are so-called Four Gentlemen in Chinese paintings. Chinese paintings mix poetry or calligraphy with themes that include characters, landscapes, flowers, birds and other animals. Nowadays old Chinese paintings are highly valued and can be sold at a high price.
Chinese calligraphy
Chinese calligraphy is an important Chinese culture. Chinese characters can be traced back to the Shang Dynasty (1600BC—1046BC). Over thousands of years, the writing of Chinese characters has been developed into a highly regarded art form, which is often called Chinese calligraphy. The ink stick, ink stone, writing brush and paper are the four common things of calligraphy. They are known together as the Four Treasures of the Study. These four “tools” have been used by artists throughout China’s history, from ancient to modern times. Calligraphy carries the emotions, feelings and personality of the calligrapher. Many Chinese people consider Chinese calligraphy as a lifelong hobby. Most children in China take Chinese calligraphy lessons.
