Havana was founded in 1519 by the Spanish. By the 17th century, it had become one of the Carribbean's main centres of ship­building. Although it is today a modern city, its old centre remains an interesting mix of Baroque and meoclassical(新古典主义的)monuments.

　　Pingyao, founded in the 14th century, shows the evolution(演变)of architeetural styles and town planning in Imperial China over five centuries. Of special interest are the splendid buildings associated with banking, for which Pingyao was the major centre for the whole of China in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
