One day I was sitting on a park bench all alone feeling disappointed by life and with good reasons to frown. I felt the world was so unfair to me.

　　If that weren't enough to ruin my day, a young boy out of breath approached me. He was tired from playing and, as he stood before me, he tilted his head towards me and said with great

　　excitement, “Look what I found！” In his hand was a flower with its petals all worn—either from not enough rain, or too little light. Wanting him to take his dead flower and go away, I forced a smile and then shifted away along the bench. Instead of leaving, he declared with surprise, “It surely smells nice and it's beautiful, too. Here, it's for you.”

　　The weed before me was dying or dead; it had no bright colors, but I knew I must take it, or he might never leave. So I reached for the flower, and replied, “That's just what I need.” But instead of him placing the flower in my hand, he just held it out waiting for me to take it. It was then that I noticed for the very first time, that this happy boy could not see: he was blind.

　　I heard my voice quiver and my tears shone like the sun. Through the eyes of a blind child, at last I could see, the

　　problem was not with the world; the problem was me. For all of those times that I myself had been blind, I vowed to see beauty, and appreciate every second that's mine.
