After one threatened legal action that they would move to other places unless the birds are removed，councilors are considering meeting their demands，while angry locals have protected the tradition，arguing that the cock is an intrinsic part of life in the village.

　　To support themselves，the locals have turned to the 1950 Allotment Act，which states it is lawful to keep hens and rabbits on open land unless they are harmful to health or cause trouble－but cocks are not mentioned.This omission means the newcomers could ask the local council to take action.Bonway Johnson，a newcomer，said，“It is not lawful.This was made clear to the council in January，but it hasn't taken any measures so a lot of disagreements have been caused in the village.”
