Modern society has planted on the surface of the earth a forest of skyscrapers in which elevators have become a must. This is natural because man cannot be so strong as to go up and down high buildings all the time. The uncommon thing in this picture is that the man is standing on an elevator three steps high. I guess the artist is trying to criticize those who waste time and money doing something unimportant. Or maybe he is criticizing some of the rich who never think their life is comfortable enough and who don’t care much about the poor.
