　　New Orleans，Louisiana is known throughout the world for its food，music，and festivals.Every year，many visitors come to this lively city，and almost all of them spend time in the French Quarter，New Orleans' oldest neighborhood.Despite its name，you won't find many French buildings in the French Quarter.Two large fires in the 18th century destroyed most of the buildings that were built under French rule.

　　New Orleans' best－known street is Bourbon Street.It is appreciated for its lively bars and restaurants，but it's most famous for its annual Mardi Gras celebration.During Mardi Gras，several million people show up on Bourbon Street and party for a week straight.

　　Since 2005，New Orleans has been in the spotlight because of Hurricane Katrina，a Category 5 hurricane that destroyed much of the city.However，the French Quarter was not affected by the hurricane.It is a very old neighborhood，and it was built on higher and drier land.Because of this，it did not flood like the parts of the city that were built in the 20th century.
