Like many teachers,I have been busily studying the best practices for reaching my students and preparing them to be learned citizens in the digital age.One of the many methods I’ve carried out in my classroom is a teacher website through which students and parents can subscribe to receive assignment updates, class announcements, and downloadable classroom handouts.
In order to make the website function in the best way for students, and allow me to build interactivity(互动)into the site,I spent some money running the website. The more I thought about the money I spend on class resources for the students, the more I planned to include advertisements on the site to get back the money I had spent before. Finally,I got rid of the idea.Deep in my soul,I knew this crossed some sort of ethical boundary(职业道德标准).Indeed students face the flood of advertisements every day—on the radio, television, and social networking sites. But as a teacher we should be ready to spend some money for our students so that is why I will never use the site for advertisements.
I’m not alone in using my own money to provide students with materials they cannot afford and to improve the learning tools to which they have access.According to a report,97% of teachers often use their own money to buy necessary classroom supplies, and teachers spend $350 on average from their own income on school supplies and instructional materials.$350 is a lot of money for a teacher. That is unbelievable for educators whose salaries, benefits, and school supplies are rapidly decreasing while the cost of living and the price of goods are increasing fast.It seems reasonable that companies offer money to education or for the government to invest more money in education.
