The scientists don’t think the dinosaurs were dragged into the cave by a flesheating animal. One reason is that the skeletons were missing very few bones. Also, there were no bite marks on the bones.Among other bonebased evidence, the shape of the dinosaurs’ forearms shows where strong digging muscles would have been. And their wide hips suggest that the creature could have supported itself while digging.
The new fossils(化石) are the best evidence yet that some dinosaurs dug caves and lived in them, the researchers say.The young skeletons were nearly twothird the size of an adult. That supports a theory that some dinosaurs took care of their young. The finding also suggests that digging dinosaurs could have been more common than scientists previously thought.
The researchers have named the new species Oryctodromeus cubicularis, which means “digging runner of the den”.
