美文赏析
In this age of new media, where nearly everyone engages in some form of social media, how do you draw a line between your online identity and your professional persona(形象)?
While most of your micro blogs(微博)updates may be harmless, voicing an opinion on a micro blog
related to your employer can lead you into hot water. In some cases,it can even get you fired.
Last year,
a famous Australian journalist,Catherine Deveny, was sacked by her newspaper. The Age,after she made a number of posts on her microblogging site.According to her editor,“The views she has expressed recently on Twitter are not in keeping with the standards we set at The Age.”
This incident set_off a heated debate over the
rights and responsibilities of using social media as a form of personal expression.
A few months earlier,an Australian politician
was expelled from his party after he made racist remarks about American President Barack Obama.Similarly,in the UK,politician Stuart MacLennan was also fired by Britain's governing Labor Party after making offensive comments about the opposition on his Twitter account.According to a report by Digital Media,8 percent of US companies admit to firing workers because of Facebook activities, while 48 percent of employers are screening(筛选)applicants using social media sites.
