BUENOS AIRES, April 7 -- Australian Ducati rider Jack Miller secured the first pole position of his MotoGP career in a wet qualifying session for the Argentine Grand Prix on Saturday.
The 23-year-old recorded a best lap of one minute, 47.15 seconds at the Termas de Rio Honda track, 0.18 seconds faster than Spain's Honda rider Dani Pedrosa.
France's Johann Zarco was third on his Yamaha with a time of one minute 47.37 seconds.
"I'm stoked, can't thank the team enough for getting me here," Miller said after opting for slick tyres despite the rain.
"I remembered the race from Moto3 a few years ago when it was wet and they were all on slicks and they had really good grip, and I know here the wet tyres overheat really quickly.
"I went out on the wets, did one lap and it was quite a good lap time, I was happy to have one in the bank. Then it was an all-in bet for the slicks."
Spain's four-time world champion Marc Marquez will start Sunday's race from sixth while compatriot and three-time title winner Jorge Lorenzo could only manage 14th.
