RABAT, April 15 -- Spanish tennis player Pablo Andujar defeated second-seeded Kyle Edmund 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday in the Moroccan city of Marrakech to claim the Grand Prix Hassan II for a record third time.
Andujar needed 82 minutes to overcome his British rival and saved two break points when serving for the match before winning on his second match point.
The Spaniard, who won the event in 2011 and 2017, has become the most successful player in the history of the tournament, which began in 1990.
Andujar has now won three of his four ATP World Tour titles in Morocco with his other victory coming in Gstaad four years ago.
Edmund, ranked 26th, was appearing in his first career final.
In the semi-finals, Andujar beat Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-4, 6-4, while Edmund knocked out fourth-seeded Richard Gasquet of France 6-3, 6-4.
The Grand Prix Hassan II was inaugurated as an ATP Challenger event in 1984 and as an ATP World Tour tournament in 1990.
The tournament, which was relocated from Casablanca to Marrakech in 2016, is the only ATP World Tour stop on the African continent.
