ASUNCION, May 11 -- Paraguayan Alejandro Dominguez was re-elected as president of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) on Friday for a four-year term.
Dominguez vowed to weed out the corruption in the CONMEBOL after the re-election.
Dominguez received unanimous support from each of the region's 10 member nations in a vote held during CONMEBOL's annual congress.
"I promise that all monies generated by this administration are going to be transparent and are going to be transferred to football where they should have always gone," the 46-year-old told delegates and guests, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The son of a wealthy businessman, Dominguez rose to power in 2016 after the arrest of his compatriot Juan Angel Napout on corruption charges.
Eugenio Figueredo and Nicolas Leoz - Napout's predecessors - were also detained as part of a sweeping graft probe by the US justice department.
In addition to tackling corruption, Dominguez said his priorities included helping the joint bid by Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay to host the 2030 World Cup.
