BEIJING, June 13 -- Chinese police will be on the streets in numbers to crack down on those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the month-long 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will start Thursday.
The traffic control bureau of the Ministry of Public Security on Wednesday alerted soccer fans to the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after matches, and vowed zero tolerance and severe punishment on violators.
Driving under the influence of alcohol was blamed for 459 traffic accidents with casualties during the 2017 World Cup, leaving 191 dead and 482 injured, figures from the ministry show.
