BERLIN, Aug. 12 -- Poland's Anita Wlodarczyk won the gold medal in the hammer throw final with a championship record of 78.94 metres at the European Championships in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on Sunday.
Reigning Olympic champion Wlodarczyk secured her fourth gold medal at the European Championships. France's Alexandra Tavernier wrapped up the silver medal with a throw of 74.78 metres and Poland's Joanna Fiodorow won bronze with 74.00 metres.
The first edition of the European Championships is a multi-sport event, which is jointly hosted by Glasgow and Berlin. More than 4,500 athletes are competing for 187 gold medals.
