JAKARTA, Aug. 28 -- World Cup winners Zhang Jiaqi/Zhang Minjie brought China the first victory in diving as they romped to win the women's 10m synchro platform at the Asian Games here on Tuesday.
The 14-year-old Chinese pair, who claimed victory in the FINA World Cup last June, led from the first dive to score for a winning total of 361.38 points.
Kim Kuk Hyang/Kim Mi Rae of DPR Korea took the silver medals and Leong Mun Yee/Nur Dhabitah Sabri of Malaysia came to third.
"We were nervous before the final, because we knew that the DPR Korean divers were very strong. But during the competition, we concentrated on ourselves, and did a better job than our usual training form," said Zhang Jiaqi, who also claimed the 10m platform individual title at the World Cup.
For Zhang Minjie, it was a special gift for her 14-year-old birthday. "I am super happy that I have the Asian Games gold medal as my birthday gift. We worked hard and prepared this competition very hard. All the efforts are paid off but I should improve my entries," Zhang said.
China has won all four gold medals in the women's 10m synchro platform at the Asian Games. Five-time Olympic champion Chen Ruolin won a record three gold medals in the 10m synchro platform and with different partners in 2006, 2010 and 2017.?
