BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 17 -- American archer Trenton Cowles clinched the men's individual recurve gold at the Youth Olympics by beating India's Akash Malik in the final here on Wednesday.
Cowles prevailed 6-0 with an overall score of 85 to 79 at the Parque Polideportivo archery range in Argentine capital Buenos Aires.
"I'm really happy. I mean, I have a gold medal," said Cowles, who was seeded 15th before the competition began. "It's a great honor to represent such a great country at the Youth Olympic Games, and I thank all my family and friends that have supported me on my journey."
The silver represented India's first ever archery medal at the Youth Olympics.
Earlier, Belgium's Senna Roos took the bronze medal with a 7-3 (138-135) win over Ukrainian Artem Ovchynnikov.
