ACCRA, Nov. 23 -- Ghana on Friday failed to survive the group stage of the Africa Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON) which is ongoing in the West African country.
The Black Queens needed a win in the final Group A match against Cameroon played at the national sports stadium in Accra but they were only able to secure a 1-1 draw.
Ghana went into the match three points behind Cameroon, who led the group pecking order with six points and a superior goal difference.
Ghana's Portia Boakye opened the scoring in the 31st minute before Cameroon's Christine Manie equalized through a penalty in the 41st minute.
Mali defeated Algeria 3-2 in the other Group A encounter held at the China-built sports stadium in the coastal city of Cape Coast.
Cameroon and Mali therefore progress to the semifinals of the biennial tournament.
In Group B, South Africa will face Zambia on Saturday in Accra while Equatorial Guinea will meet defending champion Nigeria in Cape Coast.
The 2018 AWCON will also serve as qualifier to the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France, with the top three to represent the continent.
