NAIROBI, Feb. 26 -- Olympic 5,000m silver medalist Hellen Obiri says she will do everything possible to win gold at the World Cross Country Championships, which will be staged in Aarhus, Denmark on March 30.
The 29-year-old says the cross country medal is the only one missing from her collections and she aims to fill the void in Denmark.
"This is the only medal I don't have in my cabinet. That is why I have opted to skip the World Indoor championships and focus on earning this important gem. It is down to hard work because I want to be known to be an all-rounder athlete. I know it will be difficult now that am coming from track but I will do my best to come home with a medal," Obiri said in Nairobi.
The world and Africa 5,000m champion has conquered the World Indoor Tour, World Championships, Olympics and Africa.
Now with the World Cross Country Championships medals begging to be picked in Denmark, Obiri feels her hat will win the gold.
"This cross country is part of my build-up for track events, which starts in May. I have to seek endurance and competing in cross country will give me an upper hand when I begin my track season," added the 5,000m Diamond League winner.
"Last year, winning the Diamond League title for the second year in a row was one of my highlights of 2018."
Obiri will launch her track season in Shanghai in May and wants to be at her best form when she tours Asia. But for the time being, she is content to seek new heights in cross country.
