TOKYO, May 30 -- The organizers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games said on Thursday that they are discussing measures to help prevent heatstroke. In test competitions this summer, they plan to roll out a series of measures in beach volleyball, triathlon, rowing, hockey, and marathon events.
At a liaison meeting on Thursday, Tokyo city officials said they would distribute fans and paper hats and install temporary tents and spray devices to help spectators cope with the heat and humidity.
Organizers also unveiled plans for mobile phone apps to publish information on heatstroke, with more details to be announced next month.
Meanwhile, the central government will discuss measures to prevent heatstroke for people with disabilities who need special care. Other initiatives include releasing information to foreign tourists who are unaccustomed to the hot and wet weather in Japan's summer months, and localizing the city's emergency medical system into different languages.
The Tokyo Olympic Games will be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 25 to September 6.
