CAIRO, Jan. 8 -- Egyptian Ministry of Immigration has congratulated Egyptian-American actor Rami Malek for winning the best actor award at the Golden Globe, state-run Ahram website reported on Tuesday.
Malek, 37 years old, played the role of the Queen singer Freddie Mercury in the biopic about the "Bohemian Rhapsody."
The movie made 740 million U.S. dollars in global box office sales.
In the best actor category, Malek triumphed over Bradley Coopers (A Star Gate), Willem Defoe (At Eternity's Gate), Lucas hedges (Boy Erased) and John David Washington in BlackKlansman.
Malek said that his "heart was pounding out" of his chest after winning the Golden Globe.
He added he tried to find the humanity in the role, and related it to him being an immigrant struggling to discover his identity.
