KIGALI, July 21 -- Uganda's Kampla Capital City Authority (KCCA FC) on Sunday won the champion of a regional football tournament for eastern and central Africa after beating Tanzania's Azam FC, the defending champion, 1-0 in the finals played at Kigali regional stadium here on Sunday.
The tournament, the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Kagame Cup, is sponsored by Rwandan President Paul Kagame since 2002. The two-week competition, kicked off on July 6, attracted 16 teams from 12 countries and regions in four groups.
Musitapha Kiiza delivered KCCA the second title in the 63rd minute in the second half when he hit the back of the net. Full time statistics showed that KCCA dominated ball possession at 54 percent to deny Azam a third title.
Team work delivered the win for the team, KCCA coach Mike Hilary Mutebi told journalists after the match.
Zambia's Green Eagles FC beat AS Maniema Union of the Democratic Republic of the Congo 2-0 to emerge third.
The winner will receive 30,000 U.S. dollars in prize money.
