GWANGJU, South Korea, July 28 -- China's Ye Shiwen won a silver medal in the women's 400m individual medley (IM) on the final day of the 2019 FINA World Championships here on Sunday.
Ye touched home in 4:32.07, 1.68 seconds behind world record holder Katinka Hosszu of Hungary who finished in 4:30.39 to take the gold.
The Chinese swimmer came from behind in the last lap to prevail over Yui Osashi of Japan who ended the race in 4:32.33 to pocket the bronze.
"I did very well this evening. I always had fear in this event, but I tried to swim in the 400m medley to prove my mentality," said Ye.
"During the competition, I tried to overcome things that I'm afraid of. Today, I felt very relaxed and I was even smiling before the start of the race," said the 23-year-old.
Ye secured the silver in the 200m IM event here. She snatched two gold medals in the 200m and 400m IM in the 2017 Olympic Games.
