RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 20 -- Veteran manager Oswaldo de Oliveira has been appointed head coach of Fluminense for a third time, the Rio de Janeiro club said on Tuesday.
The 68-year-old replaces Fernando Diniz, who was sacked after the team's 1-0 home loss to CSA in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
Oliveira, who was also Fluminense's manager in the 2001-02 season and in 2006, is expected to officially begin in the role next week.
Assistant coach Marco Aurelio will take charge of the club for Thursday's Copa Sudamericana quarterfinal first leg against Corinthians.
Oliveira has been out of work since he was sacked by Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds in May.
Fluminense are currently 18th in Brazil's 20-team top-flight standings.
