BERLIN, March 12 -- Hamburg have parted ways with head coach Bernd Hollerbach with immediate effect, the struggling Bundesliga club announced in an official statement on Monday.
The 48-year-old coach has been relived from all his duties as Hamburg's Under-21 coach Christian Titz has been appointed until the end of the season.
"We have intensively analyzed and discussed the overall sporting situation following the 6-0 defeat in Munich. In the end, we came to the conclusion that we have to act in the light of our relegation battle," Hamburg's chairman Frank Wettsein said.
The "HSV" suffered a hammering 6-0 defeat at Bayern Munich on Saturday. It was the 16th loss in the current Bundesliga season and leaves Hamburg on the 17th place, which is a direct relegation spot.
Hamburg is the only Bundesliga club that never relegated into the second division. However, the "Rothosen" have been involved in the relegation battle for the past seasons.
Hollerbach just took the helm in late January after Markus Gisdol was sacked due to poor performances. Nevertheless, Hollerbach spent only seven games at the sidelines and collected just three points.
"He never complained and behaved impeccably. On the bottom line, however, there was no significant improvement and he was also lacking in positive results," Wettstein said.
From now on, Christian Titz will coach the relegation threatened "Bundesliga dino" until the end of the season.
