SHANGHAI, Nov. 12 -- Olympic silver medalist Wu Dajing of China beat brothers Liu Shaolin Sandor and Liu Shaoang of Hungary to win his second individual gold in the men's 1,000m at the ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating here on Sunday.
Wu, who won the men's 500m on Saturday, did not meet much challenge in the Final A as he sent the crowd crazy with his second victory in one minute and 23.380 seconds.
The older Liu Shaolin Sandor won the silver in 1:23.622 and younger Liu wrapped the bronze.
The older Liu revealed that his goal was only to reach the Final A. And he even dismissed the idea that they had a secret brotherly strategy.
"We were just enjoying ourselves, that's our main goal. We didn't really have a strategy to beat someone, especially not the Chinese because we are still like family."
"I remember it's been two seasons since I reached the Final A last time! I am so confident with two gold medals in my pocket," said Wu.
"Standing on the podium with my brothers, I am very happy. I've never thought I could beat Wu. I told Wu after the competition, I'm 50 percent Chinese, so I'm really happy I could get a medal in China," the older Liu said.
In women's 1,000m final, Kim Boutin and Marianne St-Gelais ensured Canada a 1-2 finish as Boutin clocked a time of 1:28.885 by taking the lead early and doubling down the rest of the race.
"I know I'm comfortable in front so much, of course it was my plan. I stuck with my plan not to think about the results and just my technique and everything I need to work on," Boutin said.
World Cup leader Shim Suk Hee of South Korea was penalized in the semifinals while world champion Elise Christie suffered another penalty in an earlier round.
In women's 3,000m relay final, the Chinese skaters overtook Canada and Italy but could not manage to surpass South Korea in the last lap. South Korea claimed the gold at 4:05.792 while China won the silver at 4:05.824.
Canada was later penalized, sending the bronze to Italy.
Original leading skater Zang Yize was injured in 500m event, and Zang's replacement Guo Yihan said: "I don't see myself as having a special contribution. I just do my best. Today we felt like Zang Yize was here skating with us."
In men's 5,000m relay, China and Canada crashed with 28 laps to go to open the door for the United States, and the Americans kept pace with the leading South Koreans and overtook them at the finish line with a time of 6:29.052.
Canada was awarded the bronze after China was penalized.
