BUDAPEST, July 15 -- Chinese teen divers Ren Qian/Lian Junjie clinched gold in the mixed 10m platform event at the FINA World Championships here on Saturday.
Ren and Lian, both 16, led the field of 16 pairs since the first round and collected 352.98 points from five rounds to finish first place in the first diving final at the World Championships.
"I am happy to get the first gold medal at the FINA World Championships for China. However, I am not happy with my performance because I felt I did not perform my best at all, for all the five dives," said Ren, who clinched the title of the women's 10m platform at last year's Rio Olympic Games.
Lois Toulon and Matthew Lee from Britain finished second in 323.28 points, followed by DPR Koreans Kim Mi Rae and Hyon Il Myong in 318.12 points.
"Lian and I just trained together for less than one month, so our synchronization is not very good. I believe we can do better if we trained more," said Ren.
Ren will also compete in the women's individual and synchronized platform in Budapest. "It is a little bit pressure for me, but it is OK. I believe I can handle it," said Ren.
