KAMPALA, July 10 -- Uganda's national football team head coach on Monday named the squad that will face off with neighboring South Sudan in the second round of the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier.
Milutin Sredojevic said striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma who netted 21 goals in the 2016/2017 Uganda Premier League will captain the team, while defender Nicholas Wadada will be the assistant.
Two KCCA FC players Denis Okot and goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan were left out after they both got injured last weekend when their team played away against Club Africian (Tunisia) in the CAf Confederations Cup in Tunis.
Sredojevic told Xinhua that they will make sure that they take the game very seriously. The game is scheduled for Friday in the South Sudan capital Juba.
If Uganda beat South Sudan, they will face the winner between Tanzania and Rwanda in the final hurdle of the qualifiers.
Uganda have qualified for the last three CHAN competitions in Rwanda (2016), South Africa (2017) and Sudan (2011).
The CHAN competition is played among local based players who feature in their respective Leagues at home. The 2018 event will take place in Kenya where the Democratic Republic of Congo will try to defend their trophy.
Squad
