RIO DE JANERO, Oct. 11 -- Two-time Brazilian Serie A champions Botafogo have named Alberto Valentim as their head coach for the rest of the 2019 season.
The announcement came five days after the Rio de Janeiro club sacked Eduardo Barroca amid a poor run of results.
Valentim confirmed on Friday that he quit his position as head coach of Avai to accept the Botafogo role.
"It was an intense period that involved a lot of work and a steep learning curve," the 44-year-old told reporters of his time with Avai, who are 19th in the 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings.
"I'm leaving but believe me when I say that Avai now form a part of my life," he added.
Botafogo are currently 12th in the standings with nine wins, three draws and 12 losses. It will be Valentim's second spell with the club after a brief period as manager in 2018.
