BERLIN, Nov. 9 -- Leipzig came from behind to beat Hertha Berlin 4-2 on the brace from Timo Werner while Schalke squandered their lead three times to share the spoils with Fortuna Dusseldorf for a 3-3 tie in the Bundesliga 11th round actions on Saturday.
Leipzig assumed control from the kickoff while the hosts kept all their men behind to give the visitors a hard time and opened the scoring against the run of the game as Maximilian Mittelstadt's hammer from 19 meters beat Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi in the 32nd minute.
The visitors responded with furious attacks and restored parity as Werner converted a handball penalty six minutes later.
To make things worse for Hertha, Leipzig started their comeback before the break as Marcel Sabitzer made it 2-1 with a deflected shot from 23 meters.
After the break, Hertha Berlin continued to rely on their defence and were able to neutralize Leipzig's efforts.
In the closing stages Leipzig's efforts were rewarded as substitute Kevin Kampl capitalized on Werner's through ball to make it 3-1 on the scoreboards.
Leipzig kept it going and added another goal to their lead as Werner wrapped up his brace with a rebound. Berlin were able to halve the deficit in the dying seconds of the game as Davie Selke tapped home a loose ball.
With the result, Leipzig climbed on the 2nd place of the standings for the moment whereas Berlin slipped to the 12th position.
