TEHRAN, Dec. 29 -- Mehdi Taj, the head of the Iran Football Federation, resigned on Sunday due to heart problems, the Tehran Times reported.
Taj was hospitalized last week and doctors advised him to resign, according to the report, which added that he has suffered heart problems related to the stress of management twice in the current year.
"The activities, from now on, will be carried out in accordance with the regulations by the vice president," Iran Football Federation spokesman Amir Mehdi Alavi said.
Taj was elected as head of the Iran Football Federation in May 2016, replacing Ali Kafashian, who held the position for eight years.
