NAIROBI, Feb. 7 -- Kenya will travel to Bangui, Gambia for the second phase of the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) beach volleyball Olympic qualifiers in March.
Coach Sammy Mulinge is upbeat his side will sail through from the five-team Group C competition slated for March 12-16 along with hosts Gambia, Mauritius, Botswana and South Sudan.
Besides, Kenya's women team, which also made through the zonal competition, will take on Cape Verde, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zambia and hosts Nigeria in Abuja from March 4-8.
Only the top two teams in each group will qualify for the third and final phase.
Mulinge urged his players to stay focused on the mission, saying that "Kenya has the potential to be among the top teams from Africa and work hard to secure our ticket to Tokyo Olympics."
He has named six players of each gender for training. The women's team has Africa Beach Games silver medalists Gaudencia Makokha, Betty Sifuna, Brackcides Agala, Yvonne Wavinya, Phosca Kasisi and Mildred Cherop, and the men's team has Ibrahim Odour, Enock Mogeni, Wilfred Kimutai, Naftali Chumba, Brian Melly and Cornelius Kiplagat.
